Exterior Features:

For 1979, the Firebird body was completely restyled, featuring a new aerodynamic front end, revised rear spoiler, bulkier flares, and a connected single taillight assembly design that would become the hallmark of future Firebird models. The grilles were repositioned lower in the front bumper to allow more cold air to travel directly to the radiator and engine bay. The 1977 shaker hood scoop was revised, and the front end was dominated by four rectangular headlamps. Thanks to the iconic movie Smokey and the Bandit, the 1977 Trans Am hit unprecedented sales numbers, and by the end of 1979, close to 300,000 units had been sold.

Interior Features:

Inside, the dark black theme continues with high-back cloth bucket seats, coordinating door panels, carpeting, center console, and even the steering wheel, all contributing to the aggressive tone. The car features a full gauge package, including Pontiac’s signature tach/clock combo. It also includes great features like power windows, a tilt steering column, and an upgraded Motorola stereo. Of course, the T-tops are one of the most desirable interior options from the ’70s, and this car has them.

Engine & Performance:

Under the hood, the 403 cubic-inch V8 presents an exceptionally honest look, complete with factory decals and the light blue block color visible under the correct snorkel intake. Upon further inspection, the hoses, compressor, alternator, belts, and more show signs of careful maintenance. The V8 breathes through a four-barrel carburetor under the iconic hood shaker, and a newer stainless dual exhaust adds a powerful rumble to the car’s exhaust note.
